I distinctly remember a time in my childhood when me and my siblings put barcode stickers on our heads and scanned ourselves under those price check things in Target.
Good times.

Pep Talk

Petal loves to give pep talks to her dog siblings.

AKA, barking directly into their ear when they aren't doing what she wants them to do.

What she wants them to do = run around the yard with her like they're herding invisible sheep.
Today it was Ella's turn to experience her eardrums exploding one of Petal's lovely and uplifting pep talks.


"C'mon, Ella! You can do it! Just one more lap around the yard! Do it for me... do it for the children."
"What children?"
"PRETEND there are children and do it for them!"
"Yeah, not happening. I need a breather."
"Only wimps take breathers! Wimpy little cats!"
"You call this a pep talk?"
"It's called tough love, sister."


"FINE! I'll run, but just to shut you up!"


"Happy now, Petal?"
*panting* *gasping dramatically* "I neeeeed waaaterrrr!"
"Wimp."

Yard Patrol

"Petal! I heard something! Quick! It's time to patrol the yard!"


"It's coming from over here! Let's go!"


"Rooo! Roo roo roo!"
"Uhhh, Ella, it was just a barrel rolling around in the wind. I think we're safe."


"What? Just a barrel?! Oh... I suppose you're right."
"Should we keep barking anyway?"
"Why not?"

Pillow Mountain and Dryer Lint

Petal has always loved to lay on top of things.

Things like laundry baskets filled with laundry (preferably clean laundry).

But with her coffee table gone and the laundry basket is rarely left out anymore, she sticks to laying on top of the couch pillows. Which have always been her favorite (with the coffee table in a very close second) anyway.

Just yesterday afternoon, after running many many laps out in the yard, she settled down for a nap in her most impressive place yet.



The pillow mountain.
The pillows had been fluffed and freshened up in the dryer with a fabric softener. This is why they were stacked up on the couch, they were waiting to be arranged nicely again.

But I guess Petal thought they were stacked like this to make a really super awesome bed just for her super awesomeness!

 

This stack of pillows was piled higher than the couch and Petal very nearly fell over the back of it several times. I kept reaching out to grab her, but she always steadied herself just in the nick of time. One of the pillows did fall off the stack, over the back of the couch and on to the floor, though. Whoops.

And speaking of fluffing pillows in dryers...

My oh my! That's the largest bit of dryer lint I ever saw!


Note: We did not put the cat in the dryer. She put herself there. Seriously.

Zoomies

They had a great time in the yard this morning. Racing around in circles, wrestling, rolling around (Ella), digging (also Ella), barking at things blowing in the wind (started by Ella).

Then they came inside and enjoyed peanut butter and cheese crackers in their Kongs.
Now it's time for a nap!

My Dog does Laundry

You probably thought Petal's chores ended at yard work and washing dishes.

But a girl's work is never done.

Especially not when there is laundry that needs tending to.

Petal is going to show you dogs at home how to do laundry, step by step!


"You ready to do some laundry, Petal?"


"Let's do this thing!"


"First you have to put clothes in."


"I'm washing socks!"


"Then you have to close the door and push some buttons. Make sure you focus on your person's hand, so they don't forget to give you a treat after each step!"


"See this? This is where the soap goes. You'll have to get your human to put the soap in, since it's heavy and we haven't got opposable thumbs."


"Then you gotta close the soap compartment. My favorite part!"

"Then you remind your human to give you some extra treats and you're done!"
